Psychological and emotional benefits of virtual reality-based exercise for postpartum women with lumbopelvic pain: A randomized controlled trial

Javeria Aslam, Alba Paris-Alemany, Carlos Romero-Morales, Raquel Díaz- Meco Conde

Women experiencing the postpartum stage often develop psychological distress, fear of movement, and maladaptive pain coping, which is a hindrance to healing lumbopelvic pain (LPP). Traditional exercise (TE) programs are usually characterized by low adherence. Virtual reality (VR) - based exercise can be a strong immersive experience, which can positively affect emotional well-being, decrease fear of pain, and increase coping mechanisms. To determine the level of effectiveness of VR-based exercise programs as compar …

This study examined associations between census tract-level tree canopy and self-reported mental and physical health in urban Alabama. Methods: We linked tract-level tree canopy estimates for Alabama metropolitan statistical areas with self-reported he …

They also experience delayed access to adult mental health care once they have been discharged from child mental health services. This study aimed to investigate what …

Guardians Under Siege: Civil Society Access and Reform of the UN Human Rights Council

Inés M. Pousadela, Samuel King

ABSTRACT This article examines how restrictions on civil society participation at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) undermine the institution's effectiveness. Through stakeholder interviews and analysis of recent developments, we show that civil society engagement does not merely fulfil a democratic aspiration, but it is an operational prerequisite for Council effectiveness. Civil society serves as the UNHRC's primary source of independent information about violations and a major driver of accountabil …

Neurobiological and Neuroimmune Mechanisms Linking Chronic Pain, Sleep Disturbances and Mental Health Disorders

Boris Burnjakovic, Harrison Moy, Aleksandar Sic, Nebojsa Nick Knezevic

Chronic pain, sleep disturbances, and mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression disorders frequently co-occur, forming a self-reinforcing cycle that impairs daily functioning and quality of life. Chronic pain is driven by peripheral and central sensitization, the latter sustained by reciprocal microglial–astrocytic crosstalk and maladaptive neuroplasticity. Poor sleep amplifies pain through inflammation and circadian disruption. Imbalances in serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, together with limbi …
