Mendelian randomization established that coronary risk tracks apolipoprotein B (ApoB) particle count, not cholesterol content: when natural discordance exists between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and ApoB, risk follows ApoB reduction independently of LDL-C.
