Some Salvia species have long been used in traditional medicine for digestive disorders. This study investigated the prebiotic potential of water and ethanol extracts of Salvia fruticosa, S. huberi, S. sclarea, and S. aethiopis on probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus fermentum ATCC 14931 and L. plantarum ATCC 8014. Among the tested species, the extracts of S. huberi and S. sclarea exhibited the highest prebiotic activity.
