Centering disability in digital health: perspectives and actionable approaches to accessibility

Hilary Touchett, Kelley Arredondo, Stephanie C. Day, Brenda Salgado, Katherine Bay, Jan Lindsay, Felicia Skelton

Digital health innovations hold enormous potential to expand access to care. Yet individuals with disabilities often face inequities due to systemic, environmental, and design-related barriers that limit full participation in digital health ecosystems. These challenges often arise from the ways digital tools and systems are designed rather than the impairment itself. This perspective discusses the intersection of disability, digital health, and equitable access through key disability frameworks including the Intern …

Grzegorz Adamczyk, Arkadiusz Jabłoński, Piotr T. Nowakowski, Robert T. Ptaszek

This paper aims to answer the question regarding the extent to which the various types of COVID-19 pandemic experiences differentiated the intensity of religious attitudes among Poles. For this purpose, the validity of a working hypothesis derived from Niklas Luhmann’s social systems theory was tested. According to this hypothesis, the interpenetration of mental and religious systems in times of a pandemic leads to the emergence of meanings that reorganise communication with other social systems. Thus, we sought em …

Clement Adebamowo, Sally N Adebamowo, Adeola Akintola, Peter Ikhane, Simisola Akintola, Temidayo Ogundiran, Ayodele Jegede, Olusegun Adeyemo, Shawneequa Callier, Muhammad K Imam-Tamim, Ibrahim Uthman, BridgELSI Project as part of DSI Africa Consortium

Prevailing ethical oversight of data science health research concentrates on privacy, consent, bias, and fairness. These concerns are necessary but insufficient, because each presupposes an answer to a prior question that is seldom asked directly. That is, “do the targets, proxies, labels, classifications, ontologies, and population descriptors on which a current study rests still truthfully represent the persons, populations, and phenomena they are taken to describe, at the point of use rather than the point of co …
