Protecting Public Health and Biodiversity from Electromagnetic Exposure Through Spatiotemporal Management of Emissions in Connected Social Spaces

Adel Razek

Modern technologies using electromagnetic fields (EMF) present both anticipated benefits and undesirable side effects related to exposure. These effects may pose potential health risks to humans and environmental biodiversity under specific exposure conditions. Diverse public spaces where people work, play, do business, attend school, or receive healthcare each possess their own unique biodiversity. The functioning of these spaces requires internet connections via antennas, which are themselves linked to management …

A case report on Clostridium baratti in placenta: pathogen or commensal

Arpita Panda, Bhawna Sharma, Nidhi Punia, Dharsshana Shanmugasundaram, Deepthi Nair

Clostridium baratti is a rarely reported anaerobic bacterium, primarily isolated from immunocompromised patients. We report a case of C. baratti isolated from placental tissue in a 32-week pre-rupture of membranes patient with acute chorioamnionitis. The mother presented with fever, elevated inflammatory markers (CRP 42 mg/l, WBC 16,500/μl), and fetal tachycardia. Placental culture revealed C. baratti (anaerobic culture) and non-pathogenic organisms (aerobic culture). The neonate developed early-onset sepsis with l …

Digital compassion fatigue in nurses: an evolutionary concept analysis

Xiaobing Wu, Xia Yang

Electronic health records, telehealth and home monitoring are changing the psychosocial conditions of nursing work, and digital compassion fatigue in nurses has recently been proposed to describe compassion fatigue that may evolve within technology-mediated care. Direct evidence remains minimal, comprising two concept studies and one commentary, and the boundaries with compassion fatigue, burnout, technostress, moral distress and digital fatigue are unsettled. This study applied Rodgers' evolutionary concept analys …

Mechanisms of Lipid Metabolism Disorders in Experimental Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: The Role of LDLR, LOX-1, ApoE and LRP1

Jahongir Kh. Tursunov, Ulugbek Z. Zaribbaev, Abdurakhmon Abduvaliev, Firuza Kh. Inoyatova

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently the most common chronic liver disorder and is closely linked to insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome. Beyond the accumulation of triacylglycerides (TAG), disturbed hepatic cholesterol handling — mediated by the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), the lectin-like oxidised LDL receptor-1 (LOX-1), apolipoprotein E (ApoE) and LDL receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) — has been proposed as a central pathogenetic mechanism. Objective: To evalua …

The Bio-Psycho-Social Holobiont Model of Health: Integrating the Biopsychosocial Paradigm, Microbiota Science, and Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology

Massimo Agnoletti

This article proposes the Bio-Psycho-Social Holobiont Model as a contemporary theoretical framework that integrates the complexity of the traditional biopsychosocial model with recent advances in microbiota science. While the biopsychosocial model has long represented one of the most comprehensive approaches to understanding health and disease, emerging evidence regarding the human microbiota and the holobiont concept suggests the need for a broader conceptual framework capable of incorporating the ecological and f …

Successful Positive Health Impact of Nasal Surgery on Comorbid Difficult-to-Treat Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea After Failed Medical Therapy

Jin-Ing Lin

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common contributor to hypertension and is strongly associated with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) development. OSA and CRS have a bidirectional causality. OSA causes systemic tissue hypoxia and increases liability to infection and chronic inflammation. CRS reduces nasal nitric oxide release and pulmonary vasodilation and increases pulmonary arterial pressure. Our patient had obstruction at two subsites of the upper airway: static intranasal obstruction caused by CRS with an exophyti …

Chronic Sleep Deprivation as a Risk Factor for Cognitive Decline and Mood Disorders: Neurobiological Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications

Paweł Stępowski, Hanna Rzepka, Mateusz Tajster

Chronic sleep deprivation has emerged as a significant and modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline and mood disorders, with neurobiological consequences that extend far beyond transient impairment of alertness. Modern societies are characterised by widespread, voluntary curtailment of sleep, with surveys consistently indicating that large proportions of adults in industrialised nations sleep fewer than the recommended seven to nine hours per night (Watson et al., 2015). The consequences of this pervasive sleep …

Rethinking mpox: epidemiology, clinical variants, diagnosis, and response

Renu Thakur, Devendra Pratap Singh Rajput, Nikunj Rajkumar Agrawal, Abhimanyu Agrawal

Monkeypox disease, now commonly referred to as mpox, was once considered a geographically restricted zoonotic disease but has emerged as a global public health concern. The 2022 multinational outbreak marked a turning point, with notable shifts in transmission dynamics, affected populations, and clinical manifestations. Classical cases typically involve fever, lymphadenopathy, and a centrifugal vesiculopustular rash; however, recent outbreaks have revealed atypical presentations, including genital and perianal lesi …
