Formal Education Management Practices for Inmate’s Rehabilitation in Selected Correctional Facility in Kabwe, Zambia

Abstract This study explored formal education management practices for inmate rehabilitation at a correctional facility in Kabwe. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to collect data. Grounded in the interpretivism paradigm, the study adopted a qualitative descriptive design. Heterogeneous sampling was used to intentionally select participants with differing key characteristics. Data were analysed using thematic inductive analysis, addressing a key study objective, the finding identified several types of formal education programmes implemented for inmates in selected correctional facility in Kabwe District, including vocational training, literacy and numeracy programs, personal development skills, entrepreneurship programs, and health education.
