Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

Over the last few decades, drawing has undergone profound transformations, conceptually, materially, and technologically. From being a practice primarily associated with two-dimensional, pigmented representation on paper, it has expanded into a field that incorporates space, body, movement, installation, performance, architecture, sound, digital image, augmented reality, virtual reality, data visualization, and artificial intelligence. This evolution does not imply the disappearance of traditional drawing, but rather the expansion of its ontological, epistemological, and expressive possibilities. This essay aims to analyze the relevance of expanded drawing in contemporary artistic expressions, considering its historical antecedents, conceptual foundations, main formal strategies, and relationship with digital technologies. It also examines its potential as an interdisciplinary and forward-looking practice within the visual arts. It argues that expanded drawing currently constitutes a strategic field for understanding the transition from an object-based conception of art to process-oriented, relational, immersive, and algorithmic models. Furthermore, it posits that generative artificial intelligence, extended reality, and human-machine co-creation systems could lead to the emergence of new drawing modalities in which the line ceases to be merely a material indication, transforming instead into trajectory, information, code, behavior, and event.
