This editorial letters the updated American Cancer Society (ACS) cervical cancer screening guidelines and discusses their implications for national screening programs. Key updates include endorsing self-collected vaginal swabs for HPV screening to overcome accessibility and privacy barriers, alongside revised criteria for safely discontinuing screening at age 65. Adopting self-sampling options in national screening workflows offers a vital pathway to increase participation rates toward the World Health Organization's (WHO) 70% screening target.
