Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

<h4>Purpose</h4>To develop and test a psychiatric nursing intervention module to enhance medication adherence in persons with bipolar affective disorder (BPAD).<h4>Method</h4>A psychiatric nursing intervention module was developed and tested in 12 individuals with BPAD in an adult psychiatry ward who were randomly assigned to an experimental group (<i>n</i> = 6, intervention module plus treatment as usual [TAU]) or control group (<i>n</i> = 6, TAU). Pretest was conducted before the intervention and immediately, 1 month, and 3 months after the intervention to determine effectiveness of the module.<h4>Results</h4>Final components of the intervention included 10 sessions of psychoeducation, insight facilitation, relapse prevention, family therapy, group therapy, motivational enhancement, vocational training, interpersonal social rhythm therapy, and activity scheduling. Mean score on the Medication Adherence Rating Scale before administration of the intervention was 7.5 (<i>SD</i> = 1.3) for the experimental group, which increased to 9 (<i>SD</i> = 3.8) at 3 months.<h4>Conclusion</h4>Findings highlight the potential of the module to improve medication adherence outcomes in individuals with BPAD.
