Vollständiger Abstract

Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

This experimental study examined the effects of an experiential therapeutic intervention using the empty-chair technique. Negative emotions were activated by having participants recall conflict experiences with their adolescent children. Reductions in negative affect and willingness to experience were compared among an experiential therapeutic intervention group, a cognitive therapeutic intervention group, and a control group. Eighty-one middle-aged parents in the Seoul metropolitan area with an adolescent children aged 13 to 18 were randomly assigned to three groups of 27. The experiential intervention group showed significantly lower negative affect following treatment than the cognitive intervention and control groups. Regarding willingness to experience, the experiential group scored significantly higher than the control group on all three items, with varying between-group patterns depending on the item. Theoretical and practical implications of experiential therapeutic intervention in the context of parent-adolescent conflict were discussed, along with suggestions for future research.
