La gentrificación turística y sus efectos en la capacidad de carga sociopercibida en la calidad de vida de la población de Atlixco, Puebla (México)

The central objective of this study is to identify the effects of gentrification on the socio-perceived carrying capacity on the quality of life of the inhabitants of Atlixco, Puebla, Mexico. To this end, the important consequences of tourism gentrification on social equity, the local economy and sustainable development were analyzed, based on the increase in tourism arrivals to Atlixco and its designation as a magical town in 2015. The approach used is quantitative. The central instrument has been a questionnaire analyzed using a structural equation model. In addition, the methodology is distinguished for its correlational and explanatory character. Quality of life assessment was based on indicators from the National Quality of Life Index (INCAVI), while socio-perceived carrying capacity was measured using Doxey's model. The findings indicate a perception of rising rents and prices, the concentration of land in foreign capital, and in general, a local community that is fragmented according to income and/or ethnic groups.
