Effects of Integration Sedation Interruption With Early Mobility on Patient Outcomes and Prevention of Intensive Care Unit-Acquired Weakness in Critically Ill Ventilated Patients

Background: Early mobilization and sedation reduction are critical strategies for improving patient outcomes. Aim: This study assessed the effects of integrating daily sedation interruptions with an early progressive mobility strategy on outcomes in critically ill, ventilated patients. Study Design: A quasi-experimental research with a control group was conducted on a sample of 60 mechanically ventilated adult patients who met the inclusion criteria. We randomly divided the patients into 30 groups, with each representing the control and study groups. Data were gathered using 4 tools. Results: The intervention group showed significant improvements ( P < .001) in Medical Research Council strength scores, progressive mobility milestones, and functional assessment. Moreover, the intervention group showed significant improvements in clinical outcomes ( P < .001), including shorter hospital stays, fewer adverse events, improved discharge status, and better weaning outcomes. Conclusions: The protocol for integrating sedation interruptions with early progressive mobility is associated with improved outcomes of critically ill ventilated patients. Further randomized controlled trial studies are suggested to improve patients’ clinical outcomes.
