Vollständiger Abstract
Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?
Community participation is a relevant factor for understanding the quality of life of older adults from a psychosocial perspective. This essay analyzes the influence of participation on the overall well-being of older people, drawing on contributions from community psychology, social gerontology, and public health. It argues that involvement in community settings, social organizations, recreational activities, support groups, and intergenerational programs strengthens support networks, reduces social isolation, promotes autonomy, fosters a sense of belonging, and contributes to active aging. Based on recent scientific literature and reports from international organizations, the essay examines the physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions of quality of life, as well as the barriers that limit community integration in later life. Finally, it highlights the role of community psychologists in designing participatory, inclusive, and culturally relevant interventions. It concludes that promoting community participation should not be understood as a complementary action, but as a central strategy to ensure dignified, healthy, and socially integrated aging.
