<h4>Background</h4>The association between nurses' innovative behaviors and nursing competence has been demonstrated. However, the role of knowledge-sharing practices has been overlooked. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the moderating role of knowledge sharing behavior between innovative behavior and nursing competency among clinical nurses.<h4>Methods</h4>In this cross-sectional study, 258 clinical nurses from three tertiary hospitals in Nanjing and Wuxi were selected using convenience sampling approach. The scales used included the Nurse Innovative Behavior Scale, Knowledge Sharing Behavior Scale, and Nursing Competence.<h4>Results</h4>The scores for innovative behavior, nursing competency, and knowledge sharing behavior were (39.19 ± 5.98), (84.62 ± 10.61), and (41.91 ± 11.62), respectively. A positive correlation was observed between innovative behavior and nursing competency (<i>r</i> = 0.301, <i>p</i> < 0.05). The relationship between knowledge sharing behavior and both innovative behavior and nursing competency was positive (<i>r</i> = 0.268, <i>r</i> = 0.365, <i>p</i> < 0.01). The interaction between innovative behavior and nursing competency was positively moderated by knowledge sharing behavior (interaction term <i>β</i> = 0.219, <i>p</i> = 0.031). Innovative behavior showed a stronger positive association with nursing competency in settings with high levels of knowledge sharing (<i>β</i> = 0.448, <i>p</i> < 0.001).<h4>Conclusion</h4>Knowledge sharing behavior positively moderates the predictive association between innovative behavior and nursing competency. A supportive knowledge-sharing system should be a focus for nursing managers to facilitate the effective integration of innovative behavior into nursing proficiency.
